Senua's Saga Magazine Cover Week Three Project

This week, we were tasked with creating a magazine cover. I found this project to be the most fun and exciting one I've attempted so far. I also learned more about using Photoshop and felt much more comfortable this time around. I learned how to properly place and size images on my canvas, as well as how to create a realistic-looking barcode. Additionally, I focused on using visual hierarchy to grab the reader's attention and emphasize the most important features.

Week Two Project 2B

This week we were asked to create a travel brochure poster. I learned quite a bit about Photoshop something I was not familiar with. I was able to implement things like visual effects and Photoshop affected composition. I learned how color choice and type things matter massively it was quite different than just reading it when I saw how it affected my work.

Creative Challenge 13

This week for my creative blog I decided to go with the creative exercise used in the video that I posted below it reminded me of when I was little and we used to do ad libs for fun in fact I still like to do those.

https://youtu.be/3G6qMzwmDgg

In this video the creative exercise begins with a paragraph that reads

"A man woke up in the center median of a busy highway unable to remember how he got there he was holdng an authentic 18th century Spanish sword in one hand and an empty bottle of peppermint schnapps in the other hand "

The next step in this creative exercise requires you to add three more sentences within 3 minutes that explain how we arrived at the following sentence that concludes the paragraph. Which reads

" he picked up the chicken, apologize to the young woman and rode away.

This I found myself drawing a blank. This really had my creative juices flowing. Trying to fill in the blank with 3 minutes with three sentences that completes this paragraph with a beginning and ending this crazy was interesting, but here's my attempt.

"A man woke up in the center median of a busy highway unable to remember how he got there he was holdng an authentic 18th century Spanish sword in one hand and an empty bottle of peppermint schnapps in the other hand

"A woman stood above him shouting " you drunken fool. Get your own chicken. That chicken  belongs to me!

he picked up the chicken, apologize to the young woman and rode away.

Creative Challenge 12

Okay so I am now a really large fan of caffeine for the creative mind $250 exercises to wake up your brain a book that I found in our classroom and I absolutely adore it was written by Stephan Mamaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield.

In this book I found so many creative exercises that I love but for this week I chose one entitled Balder- What?

In this book i discovered this. This challenge  asks that you take the following 10 nonsense words and make up your own definitions for them.  It was interesting and I felt silly doing it but it was a lot of fun.

1. Izzard- the gizzards of a lizard

2. Voise- a unique voice that is hard to find

3. Visamush- when you try to visualize something but you're unable to and all you have in your Mind's Eye is visual mush

4. Cubular- when you take Bear Cubs and multiply them by three . For example when a bear delivers three bear cubs that's a cubular birth.

5. Limacious- The most delicious limes or lime flavored food and beverages

6. Wimmple- A tiny pimple

7. Zazz- Something that is full of pizzazz

8. Hottage- A very hot and humid Cottage.

9. Irratainment- Irritating and annoying entertainment

10. Screenpeep- When you catch somebody looking through your screen door or when you get the ability to get a preview to a new movie.

Creative Challenge 11

So I was racking my brain, trying to think of something to post in this week's creative challenge. I honestly was beginning to feel like I had found everything there is to see on YouTube( in terms of creative challenges).

In the reflection of a pot

I was hoping to find something challenging yet fun and different than what I had been seeing in my searches online.  Then I recalled that my professor had repeatedly informed us there is a small library of books on creativity for us to take advantage of and had encouraged us to do so.

I took my professor's advice and I'm so glad I did!

My gosh the book he suggested a book specifically entitled Caffeine For The Creative Mind: 250 Exercises to Wake Up Your Brain written by Stefan Mamaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield. This book contained a plethora of great creative exercises. I had a hard time choosing one!

This is in the reflection of my friends car door

The one I did decide on for this week is called "Is my hair okay?" The challenge explains that you are to take 10 photographs of 10 reflective surfaces the challenging part is capturing yourself taking the picture on the reflective surface so I went ahead and did that it was pretty difficult but a lot of fun and I had a lot of laughs while trying to do that here is my resultsI was struggling to find something to post for this week's creative challenge. I felt like I had exhausted all the creative challenges on YouTube and wanted something different. Then I remembered that my professor had mentioned a library of books on creativity for us to explore. I took their advice and found a great book called "Caffeine For The Creative Mind: 250 Exercises to Wake Up Your Brain" by Stefan Mamaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield. It had many creative exercises, and I had a hard time choosing one.

I finally decided on the "Is my hair okay?" challenge, which required taking 10 photographs of 10 reflective surfaces, capturing myself in the reflective surface while taking the picture. It was difficult but a lot of fun, and I had a good laugh while attempting it. Here are my results!

Learning About Design 5

During this first week of design theory, I learned quite a bit about the importance of typography. For example, how vital font, typeface, Kerning, leading, and Balance are. I am so excited about this class, in particular, I have discovered a whole new world that I had always been drawn to but didn't have the terminology or slightest clue how to put into words how strongly I felt about how text is placed on paper and how imagery works together with text in a way that compliments each other and how to establish visual hierarchy  (again something I didn't realize was a thing until this class. ) I know that it has always mattered to me what the eye is drawn to first and then second and so on, what message is being conveyed and that the shapes and colors and type face reflect the intended message or emotion correctly.

I was shocked to learn that there are so many parts that have names for everyday typeface anatomy!

. ..There was a music video for a popular 90's band I had always loved growing up(and still do! ) . It was the song No Rain by Blind Mellon. The music and the music video depict a slightly overweight girl who is dressed up as a bumblebee and she travels through the city doing her little bumblebee dance for various audiences in her travels but to her dismay, no one seems interested or cares about her or her dance towards the end of the video as she's close to giving up and brought to tears she finds a great big open field with a gate and a whole bunch of people ranging in age young to old dressed up like her and little bumblebee outfits and doing silly little bumblebee dances like her I've always felt I was that bumblebee girl and switching throughout my life to find my bumblebee people and this class and most of the classes I've had the pleasure of taking so far have made me feel what I imagine the little gives me the feeling I think that girl has when she finds her bumblebee people at the end of the video:)

Creative Challenge 10

So if I've learned anything from these creativity challenges,  it's that creativity is something that we all have within us and what I find fascinating is the way creativity and the way it is perceived is just that , perception and what society has conditioned us to believe. But after watching this video, I  learned to change my understanding and perception of what creativity is. I know we tend to stop using our creativity as we get older and that we can be great creatives like anything in life, by practicing it daily and learning to view it differently. I completely agree with the message of this presentation.

https://youtu.be/3G6qMzwmDgg

I decided to attempt the first creative exercise the audience was challenged with during the presentation.

The challenge asks that you pretend that you are in Pirate times and that you are a pirate child. You are then asked to list as many toys you can come up with that as a pirate child you would expect or want to find I'm so Happy Meal but to do so within 3 minutes.

This is what I came up with.

1) A little toys you can collect and put into

2) A toy sword and toy eye patch

3) A stuffed animal pirate

4) A toy ship

5) A stuffed animal parrot that you can Velcro to your shoulder

6) A play treasure map

7) A toy hook that you can place over the top of your

 hand

8) A pirate hat
